Double Calendula Hand & Body Cream

I thought I would use some of my calendula infused grapeseed oil and make this nourishing hand and body cream.  I call this "Double Calendula Hand & Body Cream" as it contains both a strong calendula infused water phase and a calendula infused oil phase.  This recipe makes enough to fill two small canning jars...perfect for gift giving!!!

I happened to have this Calendula Flower Powder I got from Mountain Rose Herbs and if you click HERE, I will show you how to make a Calendula Infused Oil.

Start out by adding 7 grams of Calendula Flower Powder to a mug and add 115 ml of boiling water.  Allow the infusion to sit until it cools to room temp and then strain out the herb and you will get about 100 ml of Calendula infusion (the herb will retain a bit of the water).

The calendula infusion will look like a darkly brewed tea.  Just keep it at room temp.

In a medium sized heat-safe glass bowl, add in 80 grams of Calendula infused oil......

Add in 30 grams of Mango Butter (I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs)...........

Add in 10 grams of Beeswax Pastilles (I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs).  Squeeze in two 1200 mg caps of Lecithin and three 1130 mg caps of Wheat Germ Oil. If you are not using capsules, then add in about 1/4 teaspoon of each ingredient.

Place the bowl over a simmering water bath until the beeswax has fully melted.  Remove the bowl from the heat and allow the oils to cool to room temp.  Once mixture is under 100 degrees, add in 40 drops of Vitamin E Oil.

Once the water phase and oil/wax phase have both cooled to room temp, slowly drizzle the water phase into the oil/wax phase while mixing with a hand held mixer set on medium speed.  When I say "slowly" I mean only add in about 3 ml of the water phase at a time, I use a pipette to add in the water.  Once the mixture starts to thicken and all the water has been added in, scrape down the sides of the bowl. This is the time to add in your Essential Oils.

I chose to add in 20 drops of Carrot Seed Essential Oil, 20 drops of Helichrysum Essential Oil and 10 drops of Roman Chamomile Essential Oil. You can find all these at Mountain Rose Herbs.

Transfer the lotion to clean and sterile containers. I don't use any preservatives in this recipe so sterile containers are very important.

Type up some cute little labels and add them to your jar.  I like to keep them in the fridge since they lack a preservative.  I never use my fingers to retrieve the cream, I always use a clean spoon.  Use within 60 days.
